How to Update Your Old Content 👉
Tip #1. Keyword Research
A keyword or phrase that used to be popular twelve months ago might not receive the same amount of search volume today.
Tip #2. On-page SEO
Make sure the content checks all the boxes for a well-optimized page.
Tip #3. Improve Headline
If needed, improve the headline of old posts. You can use CoSchedule’s headline analyzer tool to create great headlines. And, ALWAYS add the words like “Updated” or Current Year like “2022 Updated” in the titles.
Tip #4. Add Fresh Facts and Data
Including up-to-date facts and data is essential to keeping the content fresh. A quick search on the topic should be able to tell you if there is newer data available.
Tip #5. Broken Links
While you are at it, ensure that your outbound links are to recent and existing pages.
Tip #6. Internal Links
Since you posted the original article, we probably published a number of new posts. Now is the time to link to them from our old content where appropriate. This will improve our site structure and is good for dwell time.
Tip #7. Media
If you included any graphs, screenshots, or similar visual information, update it to the latest version. Also, consider adding gifs or videos.
Tip #8. Fix Typos and Grammar Errors
Check for grammar, spelling, formatting, and other stuff that makes content easier to consume.
Tip #9. Include Quotes
If needed, you can also add quotes from influencers to the content.
Tip #10. Update the Post Date
Finally, before pushing out the changed content, take a moment to update its date. In WordPress, you can do this inside the editor. On the right side, under Document, you find the publishing time and date. Click it to open a calendar.
Set it to today’s date and hit Update at the top to send the post out with the new date. Done.
